Blog rationale

27 03 2009

When we set out to create DesperatelySeekingGeek, the idea was to simply explore all aspects of geek culture. News, reviews, comments and some interviews, everything that could at least broadly be defined as geeky. My role in it was to take care of some aspects of design as well as write about gadgets. The target audience for the blog was, obviously, the geeks and people interested in technology, as well as random people seeking reviews through the search engines. We wanted to create a mix of posts, different length and multimedia content, but we didn’t set out a clear plan of how to achieve that. Thank god it worked out OK. The style decided on was informative, but sarcastic. We didn’t clearly define our position, so we started out as if being outside the geek culture. But gradually the story content changed, portraying us as very geeky indeed. We planned to have geeky pseudonyms as part of our house style, but that idea was scrapped in favor of greater exposure of the blog through our personal blogs. We wanted to use our own photos and videos instead of relying on stuff scattered around internet. We also decided to promote our blog through facebook and twitter, which we did. In the beginning, every member of the group had his own role, though later those were abandoned, yet we still managed to work as a team.
